Who gives Diwali gift vouchers
- Shops and showrooms that give a voucher to customers as a thank-you, or sell vouchers as ready-made gifts.
- Salons, spas and beauty parlours that sell gift vouchers before the festival. The salon gift voucher format has wording for these.
- Offices and small companies that hand each member of staff a voucher with a greeting.
What the Diwali voucher preset prints
The heading reads Diwali Gift Voucher, the value is ₹1,000, and the terms line says “Happy Diwali! Not exchangeable for cash. Present this voucher when you redeem it.” The design is the Classic double border in a deep rust colour, which prints as a mid grey on a black-and-white printer. It is festive without being loud. Change the business name, value, terms and contact line, and add your logo if you have one.
Plan back from your own date
The date of Diwali changes every year, so plan back from the day you want to start giving vouchers, not from the festival itself.
- A few weeks before: decide who gets vouchers, the values, and how many of each.
- Design and test: choose the preset, edit the wording and print one page on plain A4 to check the cut marks.
- About a week before you start: print the full run, cut the sheets and tear-test a stub.
- While giving: fill in the stub, tear it off and log the number against the person's name.
- Afterwards: keep the stubs in number order, export the log and see which vouchers have come back.
Values for customers and staff
One value for every member of staff is the simplest plan: one run, one prefix, and the same ₹1,000 for everyone. For customers, one or two values are easier to manage than many. Each PDF run prints one value, so make one run per value and put it in the prefix, such as D500- and D1000-.
If you both sell vouchers and give them away, use different prefixes, for example DS- for sold and DF- for given free. The log then shows which kind comes back. One PDF holds up to 500 vouchers, which is 167 A4 sheets at 3 per page.
Terms and validity
Say clearly what the voucher can be used for, whether it can be combined with other offers, and whether it must be handed over when redeemed. A last date is optional; the expiry date is off by default. Rules on vouchers and their expiry differ by country, so set clear terms, and check local consumer rules if you're unsure. If you sell vouchers or give them to staff, ask your accountant how to record voucher sales and the vouchers you give away.
Greetings and the rupee sign
You can type ₹ in the value field and GiftStub accepts it, but the PDF is built with the standard built-in PDF fonts, and they have no rupee symbol. So ₹ is printed as “Rs.”: ₹2,000 appears on paper as Rs.2,000, and typing ₹ 2,000 with a space gives Rs. 2,000. The preview on this page shows exactly what will print. The pound sign (£) and the euro sign (€) are in those fonts and print as they are. The PDF can print English letters only, so type any greeting in English, or in Hindi words spelled with English letters.
Printing on A4 at home or at a print shop
This page opens on A4, so there is nothing to resize. A whole piece (voucher plus stub) measures 185 × 88 mm, the stub is 54 mm wide, and the voucher is 131 × 88 mm after the stub is torn off.
- At home: print one page on plain paper first, choosing A4 and a scale of 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page. Use thicker card for the real run if your printer accepts it.
- At a print shop: take the PDF on a pen drive or email it. Ask for A4, single-sided, 100% scale. Colour printing often costs more per page than black and white, so ask for both prices. The Minimal design uses black ink only.
- Cutting: use a paper trimmer, cut on the marks, and fold the dashed line back and forth so the stub tears off neatly.
Handing them over, and checking them later
Write the person's name on the To line, slip the voucher into an envelope with a greeting, and keep the stub. When a voucher comes back after the festival, look up the number in the log or the stub box, mark it redeemed straight away, write the date on the stub and keep or cancel the voucher. If it is already marked redeemed, do not accept it. For part-used vouchers, write the balance on the stub and in the log.
The guide to tracking gift certificates explains a monthly check that works for vouchers too, and the general gift voucher template covers the voucher format in more detail.

Frequently asked questions
What should a Diwali gift voucher say?
The heading, your business name, the value, a number, a short greeting and terms such as “Not exchangeable for cash. Present this voucher when you redeem it.” The Diwali voucher preset has all of these, and you can change any line.
Can I give the same voucher to all my staff?
Yes. Set one value, enter the number of staff plus a few spares and print one run. Write each person's name on the To line and on the stub, and log the number against their name.
Can I write Diwali wishes in Hindi?
Not in Devanagari. The PDF can only print English letters, so write wishes in English or in Hindi words spelled with English letters, such as Shubh Deepavali.
Does the ₹ sign print on the voucher?
It prints as Rs. because the standard PDF fonts have no rupee symbol. ₹1,000 appears as Rs.1,000 in the PDF, and the preview shows this before you download.
Should a Diwali voucher have an expiry date?
That is up to you. The expiry date is off by default. Rules on vouchers and their expiry differ by country, so set clear terms, and check local consumer rules if you're unsure.
Can I print the vouchers at a local print shop?
Yes. The PDF is A4 and prints at actual size. Ask for A4, single-sided, 100% scale with no fit to page, and ask the shop to cut along the marks if you want that done for you.
